At 35 km from the city of Puno and at 4,000 meters above sea level is the imposing Umayo Lagoon, a place that keeps history and protects the impressive tombs of Sillustani. A series of funerary mausoleums built by the ancient Qollas and later the Incas.
At present you can see about 90 chullpas or funerary mausoleums, among these there are two different types of constructions. The first one is based on stone and mud mortar, which was built by the ancient Qollas settlers, the second type of construction belongs to the Incas, the chullpas were made of finely carved stone. At present, the constructions of these mausoleums arouse the interest of many travelers, not only for what they mean, but for their location, the care and respect they had for the ancient inhabitants of the Altiplano.
This tour of the Chullpas of Sillustani begins between 14:00 and 14:15 hrs, when we will pick you up from your respective accommodation.
At about 14:15 hrs. we will leave the city to Sillustani, located 45 minutes from Puno. Upon arrival at the archaeological center, our guides will begin with the explanation about the mausoleums and the origin of the Umayo lagoon. The tour has an approximate duration of 3h30min. time in which you can tour the archaeological center and enjoy the breathtaking views of the lake. The tour ends at about 17:15 hrs. at which time we will board the bus that will take you back to the city of Puno.
